Is a regional eSIM actually cheaper? usually not
Every comparison site tells you a regional plan saves money on a multi-country trip. We checked, and for two or three countries it is the opposite.

So the regional plan is not a saving. It is a purchase of four things:
- One install. Not three QR codes, three activations and three sets of APN settings on the road.
- One balance. Leftover data follows you across the border instead of dying with the country.
- No border admin. Nothing to do at 6am in an airport when your onward flight has already moved once.
- Insurance on an open itinerary. If the second half of the trip is still unbooked, a regional plan covers whatever you decide.
At four countries or more, or on any route where flights are not all booked, that is worth the premium. At two, with a settled itinerary, buy local packs and keep the difference.

Two rows are worth reading twice. GigSky's $57.99 for 50GB over 90 days works out at about $1.16 per gigabyte, the cheapest regional data we can verify anywhere in Asia. And Saily's fixed sizes are the most expensive here by a distance, which only makes sense once you look at its unlimited caps below.

Every regional unlimited plan here is a daily allowance that resets at midnight. Saily's 5GB per day is the largest published cap in Asia, and at $38.99 for ten days it is not even the most expensive per day. Nomad is the cheapest per day and gives you the least data for it.
The honest rule: below about 2GB a day, fixed gigabytes are cheaper. Above it, or if you tether a laptop, the daily-cap plans win, and the only number that matters is the cap you can read before you buy. The full unlimited comparison is here.

Asialink covers 12 of our 14 countries and costs $25 for 10GB. You pay about $2 more than GigSky for a plan that does not have a hole in it.
Asia & Oceania unlimited with a published 5GB per day cap, $38.99 for ten days. The only regional plan with a cap big enough to tether a laptop on.

Multi-country questions the ones people actually search
Is one eSIM enough for several Asian countries?
Yes. A regional plan connects in every covered country automatically, keeps one data balance and needs one install. The only thing to check is the coverage list, because every provider draws "Asia" or "Asia Pacific" differently, and GigSky's excludes the Philippines.
Is a regional eSIM cheaper than buying local plans?
Usually not. On a two or three country route, local packs in each country came out cheaper than the nearest regional plan in every combination we checked. The regional plan buys one install, one balance and no admin at borders, which is worth real money on a busy itinerary but is not a discount.
Which regional Asia eSIM has the best coverage?
Nomad Regional APAC and Ubigi cover 13 of the 14 countries documented here, the most of any regional plan. Airalo Asialink, Saily Asia & Oceania and Yesim Asia Pacific each cover 12. GigSky Asia Pacific and Jetpac APAC cover 11. Not one of them includes the Maldives.
Does a regional eSIM work in China?
Yes, and the firewall does not apply, because your traffic exits the country before reaching the internet. Airalo exits in the Netherlands, GigSky in the United States. The China page has the exit table.
Can I keep one eSIM for a whole Asia trip and top it up?
Yes. Every provider here sells top-ups on the same eSIM profile, so you keep the same installation and simply add data. On a long trip a 50GB or 90-day plan is usually cheaper than repeated small top-ups.
How many countries before a regional plan makes sense?
Four, on price alone. Two or three, if your flights are not all booked, if you are moving fast, or if setting up a new eSIM at every airport is a worse cost to you than roughly $5 to $10 per country.
